During the '50s and '60s, coffeehouses became synonymous with creativity and intellectualism. This literary movement, rooted in anti-materialism and the exploration of the human condition, gathered in the coffeehouses of New York and San Francisco to recite poetry alongside cups of black coffee. In 1948, amidst the uncertainty of post-war America, the Beat Generation was born. A simple formula with a magnificent result. When applied to the arts, it becomes a tool for creating balanced, organic works. It appears in the spiral of a seashell, the uncurling of a fern, and many other natural structures. It gives the world around us composition and symmetry that, for reasons we don’t fully understand, we find beautiful. The Golden Ratio is a mathematical ratio often found in nature, art, and design.
